Agra, Jan 26: Misty sunshine and a respite from the chill led to enthusiastic Republic Day celebrations all across the Taj city Thursday.
The election campaign fuelled the patriotic sentiments at flag hoisting ceremonies at public places with candidates of rival parties taking a keen interest to use them.
Additional District Magistrate Arun Prakash clarified that while flag hoisting was not banned under the election code, but speeches of political leaders would be monitored.
“This year the sale of flags and tricolour posters has seen a steep rise,” said Vidhyarthi Store owner Rajesh on Moti Lal Nehru road.
At the St Peter’s College campus, half a dozen missionary schools jointly organised the Republic Day march and presented skits and patriotic songs.
The Central Hindi Institute organised a blood donation camp in which foreign and Indian students donated blood.
