Vaiko accuses Kerala politicians of fuelling Mullaperiyar Dam controversy

Chennai, Jan 1: Leader of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Vaiko Gopalaswamy condemned political parties of the southern state of Kerala for stoking passions against Tamil Nadu over the controversial Mullaperiyar Dam.

While addressing mediapersons in Chennai on Sunday, Vaiko said that all parties were responsible for hoodwinking the people of their state and the statements by some Kerala ministers in favour of demolishing the dam were foolish.

“If Kerala people try to demolish the dam that will be disastrous, not only for Tamil Nadu but for Kerala also. So the political parties in Kerala-Congress, CPM, CPI, BJP-all are whipping up passion inside Kerala, giving wrong information and misleading the people,” said Vaiko.

Vaiko also took on the media in Kerala saying that it had shown him in very poor light. He has instead advised the people of Tamil Nadu to stay calm.

“I have continuously issued statements, that don’t damage any of the shops of the Keralites in Tamil Nadu. Don’t go near a vehicle that has got a Kerala registration. That is called the ethics of Tamil Nadu. But the Kerala papers have no courtesy to even publish even one sentence of my statement,” added Vaiko.

Last month, Vaiko had called for an economic blockade in order to exert pressure on the Kerala Government. He had even said that arm-twisting was necessary for Kerala to bend its demand to decommission the dam. (ANI)
