London, Mar.14: Former England football captain and Los Angeles Galaxy star David Beckham is hot property as far as football clubs in China are concerned.
According to the Daily Star, several clubs in China are fighting for the former England skipper’s signature as the country plans to launch its own version of the Premier League.
They want Beckham to raise the profile of the Super League in China just like he has done at L.A. Galaxy for the USA’s Major League Soccer.
Sources reckon Beckham, 36, could earn as much as 500,000 pounds per week.
A source said: “David Beckham is the type of star who could make the difference for a club and football as a whole in China. Many clubs are looking at throwing huge sums at his feet. It could be his biggest contract ever.”
The move would almost certainly get the thumbs-up from Beckham’s clothes sponsor Adidas.
The company’s chief executive Herbert Hainer said: “China has shown that it is more interested in leisure and fashion than any other country.”
Becks has just signed a two-year deal to stay at L.A. Galaxy until January 2014.
But even at 38 the midfielder could fancy the move to China.
Last night a spokesman for Beckham said: “We’ve had no approach from any Chinese clubs. Both David and his family are happy with their life in America.” (ANI)
