Salman Rushdie ‘will be a presence’ at India Today conclave on Mar 15

London, Mar 14(ANI): Indian- origin Sir Salman Rushdie will speak at a conference in New Delhi on March 15.

A spokesman for the organisers, the India Today media group, declined to confirm reports that Rushdie will be physically present but said that Rushdie “will be a presence at the conclave”, the BBC reports.

According to the India Today Conclave website, Rushdie is due to speak on Friday for an hour.

His event is be titled “The Liberty Verses – I am What I am and That’s All That I am”. It will be moderated by author Aatish Taseer.

He was earlier forced to pull out of Jaipur Literature festival two months ago after receiving death threats from some Muslim protesters, who regard his 1988 novel, The Satanic Verses, as blasphemous.

But Rushdie had vowed to “come back to India” following the incident. (ANI)
