8 in 10 people believe Arab Spring revolution will improve women’s status

Manama, Apr 5: Most Arabs say Islamic women in post-revolutionary countries would be better off in the future, a poll said.

The results of the Doha Debates poll shows 75 percent of the respondents feeling that the prospects for Islamic women would be brighter and the quality life more progressive in countries where political Islam is on the rise.

The poll results support with the findings of the February 28 Doha Debate in which 74 per cent of the audience dismissed the motion: “This House believes women will be worse off after the revolution,” Gulf News reports.

Respondents from North Africa, especially in Tunisia and Egypt, were the most optimistic about the improved condition of women, after the Arab Spring revolutions.

Most Islamic people, however, believe it will not necessarily translate into a leadership position for women politically. (ANI)
