Brazilian legend Ronaldo says Pearce should pick Beckham in Team GB at Olympics

London, May 23(ANI): Brazilian legend Ronaldo has requested Great Britain’s football coach Stuart Pearce to pick David Beckham in the team for the London Olympics, as the whole world would want to see him there.

Pearce is reticent about whether he will pick iconic Beckham as one of three ‘over-age players’ permitted in his 18-man group for the Under-23 tournament.

“I know David would love to play for Team GB – and he should. It would be a great chance for him to achieve his Olympic dream. There is no doubt that the whole world would like to see him play,” the Sun quoted Ronaldo, as saying.

Two-time World Cup winner Ronaldo, who won a bronze with Brazil at the 1996 Games, believes there is no reason why Beckham shouldn’t be picked for the Team GB.

“I do not have a reason why he shouldn’t be picked. It would be good for GB and it would be good for the tournament for him to play in his home city. He has a chance to make history,” Ronaldo said.

Beckham has time and again said that he would like to represent Great Britain at the London Olympics.

Pearce is yet to name his Olympic squad, since Roy Hodgson’s appointment as England manager has given him more time to select his team for the London games. (ANI)
