Car rally in Kolkata to mark Vivekananda’s birthday

Kolkata, May 12(ANI): Scores of sports enthusiasts gathered here on Saturday to participate in a car rally, organised to mark the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda.

The Sports Minister of West Bengal, Madan Mitra, said he was extremely thankful to the organisers for having chosen Kolkata as the venue for the rally.

“The 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is going on. I thank the organisers that they have chosen the right place to mark the completion of the 150th anniversary of Tagore. This is Vivekananda’s place and they are going to Tagore’s place. Motor sports is very adventurous, we support this sport,” said Mitra.

The participants believed that racing tracks should be constructed in the city, especially since Kolkata is considered to be a pioneer in motor sports.

“Kolkata is the pioneer in motor sports, but we are lagging behind. We must have a track so that the newcomers can practice here,” said Ishaan Sinha, a participant.

The Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, had planned a series of programmes to commemorate the occasion, including a number of cultural programmes, essay writing competitions for college students and multimedia presentations on Swami Vivekananda’s message to the youth. (ANI)
