New Delhi, May 21: Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Monday came out in strong support of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) as a cricket format, but stressed on the need of action against players who “sabotage” the reputation of the game.peaking to mediapersons here, Singh said, “If players sabotage the reputation of IPL then they should be questioned and appropriate action should be taken against them. However, the whole format of IPL shouldn’t be maligned.”
He termed IPL a “good initiative” that provides platform to young cricketers to play along the more experienced international campaigners.
“It gives aspiring cricketers a chance to play with renowned international players and gives them a platform to showcase their talent. This format is a good initiative,” Singh said.
The IPL, over the past few days has been embroiled in a slew of controversies, the most recent being the detention of two Pune Warriors India (PWI) cricketers on charges of consuming a banned contraband in an alleged rave party in Mumbai.ANI)
