Summer heat killing bats?

Ranchi, May 27: More than 50 bats have died in this Jharkhand capital, possibly due to the summer heat, officials said Sunday.

Ranchi’s temperature is hovering between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius for many days, a forest department official said. “The temperature and heat wave may have caused the deaths (in Morabadi area).”

The dead bats will be sent for testing.

Some time back, hundreds of crows died in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and other parts of Jharkhand due to bird flu.

At the Ranchi zoo, coolers are giving relief to tigers and lions.
