Lucknow, June 5: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav on Tuesday field her nomination papers for Kannauj by-polls.
“I am the best option to work for the people of this area, as I am the chief minister’s wife,” Dimple said after filing nominations.
It will be Dimple’s second attempt to enter the Lok Sabha. She had contested the 2009 Firozabad by-election, but lost to Congress candidate Raj Babbar.
The Kannauj parliamentary constituency fell vacant after Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha on being sworn in as a member of the UP Legislative Council and after becoming the State’s chief minister.
Kannauj is considered a safe seat for Dimple, as Akhilesh Yadav has represented it thrice.
The last date for filing nominations is June 6 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed on June 9.
The counting of votes will be held on June 27. (ANI)
