Washington, June 5: A man in the US shot dead two convicted paedophiles because he said he hated sex offenders and “it had to be done”, a court heard.
Patrick Drum, 34, from Sequim in Washington state said he did not plan to stop with two killings, the Daily Mail reported.
He was arrested for the murders of 28-year-old Gary Lee Blanton Jr. and 56-year-old Jerry W. Ray.
Blanton was convicted in November 2001 of rape while Ray was convicted in August 2002 of child rape.
Blanton’s wife, however, said her husband had consensual sex in high school and he did not deserve to be murdered.
The sheriff of Clallam county said Drum left a signed note in a rental car where he said the murders had to be done.
Drum said his intent was not to stop with two victims but to continue as long as he could until he was stopped by police, the court heard.
Police said anyone interested in taking things into their own hands and deciding to attack sex offenders will be dealt with strongly.
