Sydney, June 19(ANI): Australia coach Mickey Arthur has asked his young players to step up to the plate and make most of the five-match one-day series against England in absence of senior players like Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey.
The new-look Australian team has a chance of testing themselves in English conditions in the upcoming five-match one-day series starting on June 29 at Lord’s, but Ponting and Hussey who have 556 one-day matches between them, won’t be a part of the team.
The Australian selectors dropped Ponting from the limited over format whereas Hussey couldn’t make himself available for the series due to family issues, and Arthur believes it’s a golden opportunity for the young guns to cement their place in the team.
“It changes the dynamics quite a bit and that is why we are looking for other players to stand up and take over that responsibility,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Arthur, as saying.
“Michael and Ricky are not going to be around forever so this gives the guys out here a chance to stake their claims and an opportunity to make their mark and show us they belong,” he added. (ANI)
