New Delhi, June 10: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) S.Y. Quraishi retired after serving for almost two years as the head of Election Commission on Sunday.
He was the CEC for almost two years.
Quraishi replaced Navin Chawla and took over charge of CEC on July 30, 2010.
An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 1971 batch from Haryana cadre, he served as the Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Quraishi was the first Muslim to be appointed as India’s CEC.
V. S. Sampat, also a bureaucrat would take over as the new CEC on Monday.
Sampat, 62, was appointed as the Election Commissioner in April 2009. (ANI)
