Dimple Yadav elected to Lok Sabha from Kannauj

Kannauj, June 9: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav was today declared elected unopposed to the Lok Sabha from the Kannauj parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

The latest developments in this regard came after two candidates in the fray against her withdrew their nominations for the by-poll that was to be held on June 24.

Dimple, 35, who filed her nomination papers on June 5, had earlier said that being the chief minister’s wife, it would be a golden opportunity for her to work for Kannauj.

“I think being the wife of the chief minister, I have the best opportunity to work for the welfare of the people and to work for the development of my constituency,” she said.

Dimple had contested the 2009 Firozabad by-election, but lost to Congress candidate Raj Babbar.

The Kannauj parliamentary constituency fell vacant after Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha on being sworn in as a member of the UP Legislative Council and after becoming the State’s chief minister.

Akhilesh Yadav has represented the Kannauj seat thrice. (ANI)
