Iconic Wild West sharpshooter Annie Oakley’s shotgun fetches $143,400 at auction

Washington, June 11: American sharpshooter and entertainer Annie Oakley’s shotgun has sold for more than 143,400 dollars at an auction in Texas.

Several items belonging to Oakley went up for sale this weekend at the “Legends of the Wild West” auction, and brought in nearly 520,000 dollars.

The cache of nearly 100 items included several guns, her Stetson hat, photographs and letters, The Daily Express reports.

Oakley’s great-grandnieces put up the items and had inherited them from their mother, who died in 2009.

Meanwhile, Tom Slater, Director of Historical Auctions for Heritage, did not identify the gun’s buyer, but said he was a private collector of Oakley and Buffalo Bill items and had purchased a number of Sunday’s auction pieces.

Oakley became famous for her marksmanship while travelling in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show.

She died in 1926 at 66. (ANI)
