Islamabad, June 19: Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani has said the Army would continue the rehabilitation and reconstruction work for the upliftment of the people of South Waziristan, after eliminating terrorists from the area.
Kayani said the army did not want to initiate operations within the country, but its presence in South Waziristan is required so as to improve the situation and eliminate any chance of reoccurrence of terrorism in the area, reports the Daily Times.
General Kayani said that army was deployed in the area on the demand of the locals and would remain there until the completion of the development projects. .
He said under a well-planned strategy, a network of roads was being completed in the area, which would serve as the third transit link for trade with Afghanistan. Kayani said the road network would also reduce distance between Pakistan and Afghanistan by 350 kilometres. (ANI)
