Raja Pervez Ashraf is new Pak PM

Islamabad, June 22: The National Assembly on Friday elected Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stalwart Raja Pervez Ashraf as the twenty fifth Prime Minister of the country.

The 342-member assembly voted Ashraf, 61, with 211 votes over the PML-N nominee Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, who managed 89 votes.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sacked Yusuf Raza Gilani from the Prime Minister’s office.

Gilani was convicted of contempt for refusing to reopen Swiss corruption cases against President Zardari. (ANI)
