New Delhi, June 12: World Day against Child Labour is being observed today with the objective of eliminating child labour and other violations of the fundamental rights of children.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is organizing various programmes around the country in collaboration with UNICEF and ILO. An official statement said the theme for this year is ‘Justice for Children – End Child Labour’.
ILO estimates say that there are 218 million child labourers worldwide. The government’s 2001 census estimated 12.7 million involved in child labour and children constitute 3.6 per cent of the total labour force of the country.
Seminars are being held across the country by the central government and various states to address the issue of child labour. (ANI)
