London, July 18: A man miraculously retrieved a lost engagement ring from the bottom of Lake Erie after it accidently fell in it.
The one carat Princess cut diamond slipped off 27-year-old Samantha Peckens’ finger last week while she played a game of football in the lake with her fiance Adam Frost.
After two strenuous days of searching, the couple, who have been together for 15 years, since Miss Peckens was age 12, were about to give up when her own ‘hero’ came to the rescue.
“Just losing that ring off my finger I felt, you know, not complete,” the Daily mail quoted her as telling WGRZ.
“I screamed “my ring fell off!” to everybody, and everyone instantly started looking. Adam’s telling me to calm down, saying no one got hurt, as I’m sobbing.
“We went through so much together as kids and growing up together and it was everything to me. It never came off my finger. And when it did, especially in the water, it just broke my heart. Absolutely broke my heart,” she said.
The pair had 30 people searching for the ring, but it wasn’t until their friend, Drew Supon, volunteered his underwater metal detector that they found the diamond.
After three days of searching, Supon produced Pecken’s ring from beneath five inches of heavy sand and about four feet of water.
He said he had a feeling about one particular spot, and didn’t think twice before quickly taking action.
“I just decided to slide my hand into the sand and raise it up. What I thought was another Pepsi pull tab was Sam’s ring in my hand!” he said. (ANI)
