Congress leader claims Baba Ramdev has black money

New Delhi, Aug.9: Congress Party leader V. Hanumantha Rao on Thursday accused yoga guru, Baba Ramdev of possessing black money, and added that the latter had no business pointing fingers at others for the same when he, himself, was culpaple.

“Baba Ramdev sat on a hunger strike today, to protest against black money, but I fail to understand that Baba Ramdev himself has billions of rupees hidden as black money, and he is campaigning to bring back the black money of the country. If he does not reveal his black money, no one will join his campaign except the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” said Rao.

Commenting on this latest agitation and attack on the federal government, Law Minister Salman Khurshid said that every individual had the right to protest in a democracy.

“This is democracy and democracy plays itself out in many ways. The Ramlila grounds is a place where every the drama is performed and the script of the drama can change but in democracy everyone has their own way of interpreting and expressing themselves,” said Khurshid.

In June 2011, Baba Ramdev and thousands of his followers went on a mass hunger strike in New Delhi to demand reforms, including death penalty for corrupt officials.

Dozens were injured when the government sent in police to break up their peaceful protest.

His campaign was an embarrassment for the Congress party-led coalition hit by graft scandals including allegations of kickbacks at the Commonwealth Games and a telecom scam that may have cost the government up to $39 billion in revenues.

A series of high-profile scandals has eroded trust and stymied policymaking in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s administration in recent months. (ANI)
