Jaipur, Aug 21: A criminal was recaptured Tuesday a day after he and nine other prisoners escaped from a jail in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district after beating up six guards, police said.
Three of the jail-breakers had been arrested immediately after the escape Monday afternoon,
According to the police, criminal Mohar Singh had escaped from the prison for third time in the past seven years.
“Singh used to run a gang of robbers and had several criminal cases registered against him. He had escaped from a prison in Ajmer twice earlier. He was recaptured all the times,” said a police officer.
Ten prisoners had escaped Monday afternoon from a sub-jail in Bhim town in the district, some 300 km from Jaipur.
“There were 20 prisoners, undertrial as well as convicts, lodged in the jail. The guards were shifting these prisoners to the barracks from the outside area in the prison premises when 10 of the prisoners suddenly attacked the guards, overpowered them and escaped,” said the officer.
