Islamabad, Aug. 12: A rickshaw stand manager was paraded naked at a marketplace in Pakistan’s Layyah district after he refused to pay extortion money to locally influential men.
According to reports, eight people came in a rickshaw and assaulted the manager, identified as Wazir Hussain, stripped him naked and then paraded him, stated The Express Tribune.
Local police, under pressure from the influential extortionists too had refrained from registering an FIR against the offenders.
The men also attacked nearby storeowners who tried to intervene. The shopkeepers, however, were successful in apprehending two of the eight extortionists, and handed them over to the police. But the sub-inspector there refused to register a case or proceed with investigations into the assault. He also pressurised the rickshaw stand manager into withdrawing his case against the accused.
Two of the offenders have been identified as Anwar Ali and Khaak Ali. The remaining six men managed to make good their escape.
According to reports, after the news of the incident spread, the Station House Officer of Thanakot Sultan police station, reached the station immediately, and registered a FIR against the two men caught by the people and four other unknown assailants. (ANI)
