‘Pained’ Sonia Gandhi condemns violence against northeastern people

New Delhi, Aug 19: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday expressed grief and pain over the ethnic violence in Assam, and condemned the racial aggression against people belonging to the northeast in various parts of the country.

Speaking at the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award Function here, Gandhi said

“Whatever happened in Assam, it is very painful and matter of concern. The guilty should face legal action soon.”

She added the biggest challenge in society came from people who were enemies of social unity.

Expressing concern over the mass exodus of northeastern people from Bengaluru and other cities, the Congress president said, “The kind of treatment innocent people from north east had to face, all of us should condemn it strongly.”
