Beijing, Sep 21: About 10 percent of Chinese consumers now buy mobile phones online and their number is rising rapidly, a study has found.
About 30 million mobile phones are expected to sell online in the country this year, a rise of 68 percent year-on-year, the SINO Market Research Ltd said in a study.
The figure represents a growth in sales more than 10 times that of mobile phones sold in stores, China Daily Thursday quoted the study as saying.
The study predicted 270 million mobile phones will be sold in stores in 2012.
China’s second-largest e-commerce site, 360buy.com predicted its mobile phone sales will reach 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) by year-end, up from 30 million yuan in 2007.
The website signed agreements with around 20 mobile phone manufacturers Wednesday to purchase handsets worth 100 billion yuan over the next three years.
