New Delhi, Sep 28: Taking potshots at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for criticizing the Prime Minister over a slew of reforms announced by the UPA Government, Congress Party on Friday applauded Dr. Manmohan Singh for initiating brave economic reforms to boost the country’s sinking economy.
“Our Prime Minister has a very patient demeanor, you can’t take it as a drawback hence his peace and balance is many a times mistaken as a weakness. But our Prime Minister is man of action, not just words,” said Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit.
“What he has done today I feel there are very few people in politics who would have followed his decision to drift away from politics and put the country’s benefit on priority. Mr. Advani (Bharatiya Janata Party veteran L.K. Advani) should understand this,” he added.
Meanwhile, Union Law and Justice Salman Khurshid said that the ruling government would perform its duty in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition and complete its term.
He also noted that in coalition politics, differing opinions may surface and on this score, the Congress Party is determined to arrive at a consensus.
“In a democratic set up when there is a coalition government then some parties differ in opinions on priorities. When the preferences go in different directions then it is a big responsibility for the government to build consensus. We will undertake and fulfill this responsibility,” he told mediapersons on the sidelines of an event here.
Lashing out at the ruling Congress Party for using the CBI to remain in power, BJP veteran L.K. Advani earlier in the day said he was ‘almost sure’ that the UPA Government will not last till 2014.
Advani, who is miffed with the ruling Congress Party over a series of corruption scandals, said that majority of UPA allies not keen on supporting Congress.
“This government is sick and is in the ICU. It appears that the UPA-2 will not survive till 2014. The Congress has found a new ally in CBI to manage allies till 2014,” he added.
Advani, who took centrestage on the third and final day of the BJP’s national executive and national council meetings in Surajkund, Haryana, also alleged that the ruling UPA Government at the Centre is not ruled by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, but by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government is facing intense pressure from the opposition parties over the slew of reforms announced recently.
UPA Government has also lost the support of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has withdrawn its support over the move to allow FDI in multi-brand retail, a cap on the number of LPG gas and diesel price hike. (ANI)
