Hook-up apps come with added risks

Melbourne, Sept 19: Online dating and mobile hook-up services have raised questions about its safety after a man from Sydney was attacked at his apartment.

The man was attacked by another man he had met through a dating app, the Daily Telegraph reported.

He was bound and gagged in his house while the other man and a third party robbed him. It could have been much worse – he escaped with minor injuries, the paper said.

Two of the most popular hook-up apps used in Australia are Grindr and Blendr.

Grindr is used exclusively by the gay community, while Blendr is its “straight” partner application.

Will, a Grindr user in Sydney, said the recent attack would make him more wary of using hook-up apps in future.

“It’s something that’s always in the back of my mind, so it’s good to hear this kind of story as a reminder to be more careful,” he told news.com.au

“It also makes me think it would be safer to meet in a public place first and then go from there, rather than just to meet at someone’s house and get straight to it,” he added. (ANI)
