New Delhi, Sep.24: Norwegian Ambassador to India, Eivind S. Homme, presented his credentials to President Pranab Mukherjee at the President’s House here today.
“It was a great honor to formally assume the position as Ambassador of Norway to India this morning at an impressive ceremony, and to bring warm greetings from His Majesty the King of Norway and our Prime Minister to His Excellency the President of India. Following the ceremony, I had the great pleasure to be invited for tea with President Mukherjee, who talked highly about the bilateral relations between India and Norway and his wish that the relationship will grow even further under my time as Ambassador to India. The president advised me to travel around India to get an understanding of the diversity, the strength of national unity and democracy of this vast country. He underlined that when two nations understand each other, it is always possible to find common ground and further expand our cooperation,” said Ambassador Homme.
“I feel privileged that the bilateral relations between India and Norway have developed into a solid and fast growing partnership, based on friendship, mutual interests and respect. I feel privileged that following the launch of my Government’s India Strategy in 2009, the Embassy has almost doubled its staff in Delhi. I intend to do my utmost in strengthening our partnership, with a special focus on economic relations and I hope the trade negotiations through EFTA will succeed. This month a Norway-India Business Association will be established, which I hope will help move this agenda forward.”
“I am also proud of what we have built up of cooperation through the Norway-India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) and Joint Working Groups (JWGs) in the areas of environment, science and technology, hydrocarbons, maritime, local governance, culture and higher education”, Ambassador Homme added. (ANI)
