Lohardaga (Jharkhand), Sep.18: Rural development in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga District is being severely affected due to the Naxal menace.
People in the region have no access to basic amenities like roads, because contractors are refusing to make or repair them due to threats from the rebels.
“All roads leading to Naxal areas are in bad condition. It not only creates problems for villagers but also for people coming from cities. It is very difficult for vehicles to ply on roads dotted with potholes. The Naxals are responsible for the bad condition of roads,” claimed Rahul Kumar, a student.
The poor condition of roads in Pakhar, Dhardharia, Ambapani, Kisko and other areas in Lohardaga, has seriously inconvenienced commuters, farmers, school children, and patients.
“The road from Kisko crossing to Kisko block is always in a bad condition. It makes it difficult for children to reach their school located on the roadside. There are deep potholes on this road, and bikers often meet with an accident,” added Basu Lakda, a resident.
“We face many problems while taking patients to the hospital. Sometimes we have to take patients during night and due to the bad condition of the road, the vehicle fail to work. We have been facing these problems for the past 12 years,” said Karuna Devi, another resident.
Naxalism is the root cause for the economic backwardness and underdevelopment in many parts of Jharkhand.
Though the Naxals claim to be fighting for the poor, their activities have affected them the most. (ANI)
