London, Oct 14: Smartphones, iPads, laptops and other electronic gadgets have led to an unbelievable 2,700 percent increase in the sale of “manbags” since the start of the year, according to a British department store.
Four in five men now carry a manbag, and on average it weighs more than a woman’s handbag, the Daily Mail reported citing department store Debenhams.
An ever-growing need to carry a number of electronic gadgets as well as keys and wallets has led to the growth.
On average, the contents of a manbag are worth just over 1,100 pounds and weigh 1.5 kg. A woman’s handbag weighs in at 1.2 kg.
Among celebrities, footballers David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and rapper Jay-Z have all been seen carrying manbags.
The report also said the typical size of a woman’s bag has dropped by 61 percent over the past three years, thanks to gadgets getting smaller.
