Over a dozen passengers die as power cable falls on bus in Jahanabad

Jahanabad (Uttar Pradesh), Oct.24: At least 15 passengers, including the driver and the conductor, were charred to death and several others suffered severe burns, as a high tension electricity wire snapped and fell on a private bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Jahanabad District late on Tuesday.

The injured passengers have been admitted to hospitals in the state’s Kanpur and Fatehpur Districts.

Mahesh Chandra, an eyewitness to the incident, sought relief package from the authorities concerned.

“Several people have died. At any cost we want that the authorities should find out the number of dead passengers, and they should immediately offer relief packages to the families of the deceased.

The injured should be given Rs. 5 lakh as compensation and kin of the deceased should be given Rs. 10 lakh each,” said Chandra.

The death toll is expected to go up.
