Ex-teammate Hamilton says ‘broken soul’ Armstrong should come clean on doping

Sydney, Oct 17(ANI): Lance Armstrong’s former US Postal team colleague Tyler Hamilton, who gave evidence against him in the doping scandal, has said the American cyclist is currently like a broken soul, and should speak the truth about taking performance-enhancing drugs, to come clean in the matter.

Hamilton, whose book The Secret Race details his life inside the peloton when he was part of Armstrong’s US Postal team, won an Olympic gold medal before handing it back after himself admitting to doping.

Hamilton admitted he may likely have been prepared to go to the grave with his own secrets before being caught, but he knew he had to plough on and has urged Armstrong to do the same, suggesting it will lead to a happier life.

“I just feel for his situation. It’s got to be hard. He’s got to be a broken soul right now. It’s never too late to tell the truth. There’s going to be consequences,” News.com.au quoted Hamilton, as saying.

“There’s probably a lot of money at stake if he tells the truth, but I guarantee he’s going to lead a much happier second half of his life if he comes out and comes clean. I hope he takes some time to reflect with the news that came out last week and makes the right decision,” he added.

“Although he’ll have some consequences to pay, he’ll be better off in the long run if he tells the truth. I tried to live with a lie for a long time, and it takes its toll on you … once you tell the truth it’s a big weight off your back, and people will eventually forgive Lance,” he said.

Hamilton added: “Hopefully some day Lance will come out with the truth and this will all be behind us.” (ANI)
