Kolkata, Oct 24: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Bijaya Dashami.
“Wish you and your family a very, very happy Bijaya Dasami. May the day bring you good heath and good fortune,” Banerjee posted on her page on social networking website Facebook.
Idols of Goddess Durga and her children were immersed in the Ganga river and other water bodies across the state on the day, marking an end to five days of puja festivities.
Durga Puja, one of the biggest annual festivals in eastern India, marks the victory of good over evil, with the slaying of demon Mahishasura by Goddess Durga. The festival started Saturday with ‘Mahashashthi’.
