Kolkata, Oct 9: The Left Front Tuesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of lying and her party Trinamool Congress of looting the people.
“Not a day passes when she does not lie. In the name of beautification of the city, her party is looting,” CPI-M and Left Front leader Surjya Kanta Mishra said at a rally here.
Mishra attacked Banerjee after she accused the union government of “looting in the name of reforms and telling lies to detract public attention”.
“From declaring the Singur (Land Rehabilitation and Development) Act valid even before the matter was heard by the Supreme Court to saying that her government had created one lakh jobs, she has always resorted to falsehood,” he said.
Mishra said the administration had denied permission to the Left Front to hold the rally.
“The chief minister must learn a lesson from today that she cannot stifle the voice of opposition no matter how much she tries. We will continue to raise our voice whenever and wherever there is injustice,” Mishra said.
He also accused the Trinamool Congress-run Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) of impropriety in implementing projects for the city’s beautification.
“The beautification projects have surely generated employment. But who all have benefited is known to all. It is well-known that only her partymen have benefited,” he said.
The opposition has been criticising the installation of decorative trident lights along roadsides. They said the lamps were installed at high prices without inviting tenders.
Rupa Bagchi, leader of opposition in the KMC, alleged that the civic body’s “trident light scam” was worth Rs.27 crore.
