Lahore, Oct. 22: About 80 doctors, including more than a dozen surgeons, are leaving Pakistan every year due to various reasons, Prof Abdul Waheed of Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) has said.
“One of the leading reasons for doctors’ departure is low remuneration, poor law and order situation and lack of proper service structure for them. Medical officers, registrars and even senior registrars are also leaving the country,” the Daily Times quoted Waheed, as saying.
Waheed said the withdrawal of American doctors from Saudi Arabia due to security reasons create opportunities for Pakistani doctors to fill up the vacant posts. After every three months, Saudi officials visit Pakistan and select Pakistani doctors by the permission of the government, he added.
Waheed said it was a matter of concern and the “gravity of the situation should be felt”. (ANI)
