Islamabad, Oct. 8: A Pakistani woman, hailing from Vehari city in Punjab has accused the vice president of the Pakistan People Party’s Kingri women wing of selling her into marriage on the pretext of offering her a job.
The Express Tribune quoted the ‘victim’ as saying that the ruling party member had offered her a job in Khairpur, and the woman- a divorcee, and a mother of two young children – jumped at the opportunity.
However things took an ugly turn after she moved to Khairpur. The PPP member took her to a man, assuring her that he would give her a job. But the man forced her to marry him , after which she found out that he had paid Rs 110,000 to “purchase” her from the political leader.
After weeks in captivity, the woman managed to flee from the man’s house and headed straight to the police station, seeking shelter. She was then taken to court, where a case was registered against the ruling party leader and the man accused of forcefully marrying her.
The political activist however, has refuted all allegations.
“Recently, I visited Vehari where the woman’s maternal uncle and brother told me that S had been divorced and they wanted to find a suitable partner for her. In my own town, a man had been repeatedly asking me to find him a suitable wife,” she said, refuting allegations that she had sold off the woman. (ANI)
