Melbourne, October 29: The days of changing into your swimmers hiding under a towel may be over as a new range of swimmable underwear works just as well as beach wear as it does in the office.
The lycra blend bra and brief set offers support while being lightweight, quick at drying and opaque.
Structured bras in sizes 10A to 16E, which range from 65-69 dollars, feature salt and chlorine resistant underwire to support and lift the bust and quick-dry padding.
The briefs, which range from 29-34 dollars, feature retro ’50s styling with high waists and frill details, which follows wider fashion trends.
Underwear of Sweden’s designer Helene Pilhage said that the idea was born two years ago after she became frustrated for forgetting her swimsuit when taking her children to the beach.
“People were saying the same thing, ‘Why can’t you wear your underwear to go for a swim?’,” the Daily Telegraph quoted her as saying.
“No one was doing it so I thought lets give it a go. Australia is the perfect market for it because of the lifestyle, people go straight from the office to the beach,” she said.
Pilhage believes consumers are crying out for the multi-purpose sets.
“It’s not see-through when you go for a swim, it holds its shape and because it is underwear you also have to get that feel right. It’s not as thick as a bikini, which can get a bit sweaty if you wear it all day.
“It also comes with two straps, so when you are at the beach you can swap your bra over to a halter neck so it looks more like a bikini,” she added. (ANI)
