Lahore, Oct.31: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned further hearing of a petition filed against President Asif Ali Zardari for not relinquishing the political office of PPP co-chairman till November 7.
The postponment of the hearing to a new date was passed by a bench headed by Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
President Zardari’s counsel Wasim Sajjad had submitted a request in the court asking for an adjournment of the hearing, which was accepted.
On October 10, Sajjad had said that Zardari did not hold any political office and no prohibitory order had been issued by the court in the past against the president’s dual office.
The court had earlier, On September 5, sent a notice to President Zardari through his principal secretary and had sought a reply to the petition pleading contempt proceedings against him for not abiding a court order to relinquish his political office.
The petition that had been filed by Munir Ahmad through lawyers A K Dogar and Azhar Siddique. (ANI)
