Kangan (Jammu and Kashmir), Nov 26: In a bid to boost the use of new agricultural techniques for farmers, the state authorities organized a machinery fair here that had on display innovative and modern farming equipments.
Farmers in the Kangan area of Ganderabal district said the fair has not only educated them, but also motivated them to opt for modern machinery.
“The main purpose for visiting the fair is to learn new techniques and technologies of farming. We do not have much information about modern techniques that can reduce cost of farming and also increase produce, resulting in higher yields. There are so many new machines and we are very happy to be here,” said a farmer, Mohammad Ramzan.
Joint Director of Agriculture Khurshid Ahmad Qasba said that an amount of 105 million rupees has been granted for conducting the fairs.
“We have got atleast… say about 32 sub-divisions in Kashmir valley. We are going to organize these machinery fairs almost at the farmers’ doorsteps within the subdivision so that farmer can have the choice of the machinery and whatever he wants, he can purchase and also as per requirement. So that is why we have organized these fairs, out of that almost we have completed about 24 fairs and four to five are left. A subsidy of 10.50 crores rupees (105 million rupees) are being released in favour of farmers for the purchase of this machinery,” said Qasba.
He added that most machines were sold at a discount.
