New Delhi, Nov 17: Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has expressed grief on hearing of Balasaheb Thackeray’s demise, and said that the Shiv Sena supremo remained committed to well-being of the people of Maharashtra throughout his life.

“I am grieved to learn of the sad demise of Shri Balasaheb Thackeray. Shri Thackeray has made significant contributions to public life in Maharashtra. Throughout his life he remained committed to well-being of the people of Maharashtra,” said Vice President Ansari in his condolence message.

“My wife joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and wide circle of his admirers. We pray to God to grant eternal peace to the departed soul,” he added.

Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray, who was critically ill for the past few days, passed away at his residence ‘Matoshree’ in suburban Bandra earlier today. He was 86.

“He had suffered a cardiac arrest. We could not revive him despite our best efforts. He breathed his last at around 3:30 PM,” Dr Jalil Parkar, who treated the Sena supremo, told reporters after emerging from Thackeray residence Saturday evening.

Thackeray had been suffering from respiratory problems and pancreatic disease.

He is survived by sons Jaidev and Uddhav, who is the Executive President of the party. (ANI)
