Brit couple celebrating platinum anniversary say arguing is key to happy marriage

London, Nov 2: Seventy years of squabbling might sound like the opposite of wedded bliss but for a Birmingham couple, daily rows are the key to their happy marriage.

Despite bickering constantly since tying the knot during the Second World War, Floss Lucas and her husband Harry are now celebrating their platinum anniversary.

“I never thought we’d stay married this long because we’ve had lots of arguments,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

“If any couple tells you they never argue, they’re lying. Arguing is healthy,” she said.

The teenage sweethearts married in 1942 when Harry was on leave from fighting the Germans.

But even after the war, Harry, 93, faced more conflict at home.

“I’ve lost count of the plates and dishes I’ve thrown at him,” she said.

“We love each other, of course, but we’re fighting most of the time – at least once a day for the last 70 years we’ve been married. Having said that, I do love him to bits,” she added.

The devoted pair say that they always make up before going to sleep and kiss at least once a day.

“We have argued, laughed and loved for 70 years – I wouldn’t have it any other way,” she said.

“All our fights have only been over little petty things, it’s never been about either of us running off with other people.

“He was never one for going to the pub, he’s stuck to me all the time. That’s one of the things we’ve fought about – he clings to me,” she said.

The couple of Balsall Heath, Birmingham, have two children, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

They celebrated their anniversary with three parties and a letter of congratulations from the Queen. (ANI)
