Kochi to host ocean remote sensing conference

Kochi, Nov 2: About 500 participants from 25 countries are expected to take part in the five-day 11th biennial conference of the Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference Association (PORSEC), set to begin Tuesday.

The theme of the conference is ‘Ocean remote sensing for well-being of all’, said the organisers in a statement Friday.

About 25 technical sessions dealing with various aspects of Ocean Remote Sensing will take place at the conference.

PORSEC is an international society established during the International Space Year 1990 to promote ocean remote sensing.

The association promotes studies of ocean and atmospheric sciences using remote sensing technology through international collaboration.

PORSEC aims at providing better opportunities for scientists, especially from developing countries, for learning and applying state-of-the-art knowledge in ocean-atmosphere remote sensing and environmental sciences.

These international conferences and training courses are held every two years, in different countries.

PORSEC is supported by members from over 40 countries and agencies interested in advancing the remote sensing and related ocean science capabilities in developing countries.
