‘Red Dawn’ release prompts anti-Asian tweets

Washington, Nov 27: Days after the release of the ‘Red Dawn’ remake, hateful, fearful and mocking messages have begun popping up on Twitter.

The grassroots Asian American media watch organization Racebending posted a few tweets, and a quick search showed that most of the tweets stated that the movie made them “suspicious” of Asians.

“Just saw Red Dawn with the boys…makes me wanna lock-n-load and whoop some Asian Ass,” the Wall Street Journal quoted a tweet.

“Bout to go take over bamboo garden the china in and dragon palace #RED #DAWN,” other wrote.

“I wish Red Dawn would happen in real life so I could shoot those chinks coming in by parachute,” a tweet read.

According to the report, in keeping with the blurry ethnicity of the movie’s Asian enemy (which was switched from Chinese to North Korean in postproduction), many of the tweets are wide-bore in their reaction, targeting generic “Asians,” or expansively slamming a buffet of nationalities. (ANI)
