Moscow, Nov 1 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A court in Russia’s Kazan city Thursday handed down suspended sentences to two men convicted of defrauding a German national of 1.8 million euros, authorities said.
The two men received three- and four-year suspended sentences for fraudulently offering to sell a large consignment of rapeseed oil on the internet in 2009.
The head of a German company, whose name was not disclosed, responded to the offer, agreeing to buy 1.83 million euros worth of oil.
The German arrived in Kazan where he signed a contract and made a 100 percent advance payment. However, the oil was never delivered.
The fraudsters managed to withdraw the entire sum from an ATM before disappearing.
