London, Nov 17: Global retail sales for the latest edition of the ‘Call of Duty’ video game have surpassed 500 million dollars in the first 24 hours after being put on sale, publisher Activision has confirmed.
It comes after there were more than 16,000 midnight openings at shops around the world for the Nov mber 13 launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 game.
Activision claimed that “for the fourth consecutive year, the Call of Duty franchise has delivered the biggest entertainment launch of the year,” The Telegraph reports.
According to the paper, Bobby Kotick, chief executive of Activision Blizzard, said “Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars,” the two
most successful movie franchises of all time.”
It is the same game which hit headlines earlier this week after it emerged that disgraced ex-CIA chief David Petraeus had been portrayed as ‘Secretary of the Defense’ in the game, set in the year 2025, who flies with President Barack
Obama on an aircraft on their way to meet a prisoner. (ANI)
