London, Nov 27(ANI): Two West Ham United supporters were arrested and cautioned for making Nazi-style salutes following Sunday’s rancorous game against Tottenham Hotspurs at White Hart Lane.
The police have also confirmed that they have received a formal complaint about the anti-Semitic chanting heard from the West Ham section of the ground, the Telegraph reports.
The complaint was made by telephone by a member of the public, and police will now meet with the complainant and decide whether to launch a formal criminal investigation.
Peter Herbert, chairman of the Society of Black Lawyers, told Sky Sports News that his organisation has also made an official complaint to the Met Police.
Just a matter of days after Tottenham fan Ashley Mills was stabbed before Thursday’s Europa League game in Rome, West Ham supporters sang ‘Viva Lazio’, ‘Can we stab you every week?’ and hissed on several occasions, apparently mocking the mass execution of Jews during the Second World War.
Fans also chanted “Adolf Hitler, he’s coming for you” at the Tottenham crowd.
Earlier today, West Ham confirmed they would assist Spurs with their investigation into the apparent abuse by travelling fans and vowed to take the strongest possible action, including enforcing life bans from the club, on any supporter found guilty. (ANI)
