Bird set for Oz Test debut against Sri Lanka following ‘rotated’ Starc’s omission

Sydney, Dec 24(ANI): Fast bowler Jackson Bird will make his Australia debut against Sri Lanka in the Boxing Day Test against Sri Lanka at the MCG after Mitchell Starc was omitted from the squad as per Cricket Australia’s (CA) controversial rotation policy.

Mitchell Johnson would replace injured Ben Hilfenhaus for the second Test, which starts on Dec 26, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Bird said he was excited to earn his first baggy green and wants to repay the faith Australia coach Mickey Arthur and selectors have shown in him.

Meanwhile, Arthur said Bird was the right choice to replace Starc since the Tasmania-based quick was in tremendous form and bowls a good line.

Arthur added that Starc was disappointed with the decision but took the news of getting dropped well, and he added that the left-arm pace man was integral of their future plans

Starc is likely to return for the third Test in Sydney on January 3. (AN)
