New Delhi, Dec 24: With India Gate and its surrounding area the scene of violent protests against a gangrape, the venue of the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday was changed from Hyderabad House to 7, Race Course Road.
The meeting was earlier scheduled at Hyderabad House, which adjoins India Gate where thousands of people, mostly youth, clashed with police during protests over the gangrape of a 23-year-old woman a week ago.
The meeting venue was Monday morning changed to the prime minister’s official residence, according to a statement.
Putin arrived early Monday for the annual bilateral summit between the two nations. He is to leave in the evening.
