New Delhi, Dec 21: Expressing concern over quality in higher education, Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor Friday said the government was taking steps to change the situation.
“Quality and employability of graduates is a serious challenge. There is a need actually to re-educate them for some extra months,” Tharoor said at a lecture at the Observer Research Foundation.
“A multi-pronged approach is needed. We are implementing the suggestions of the Narayana Murthy Committee report… a high level body on skill development will also be formed,” he said.
The Narayana Murthy Committee has asked the government to ensure that big companies were invited to help in developing higher education.
It said personal invitations should be sent by the prime minister to 25 Indian companies and 25 eminent, high net worth individuals to start a university.
