New Delhi, Dec 6: Reiterating its stand against the proposed foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail, the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday made it clear that the party will hold the same stand as in Lok Sabha and abstain from voting in Rajya Sabha tomorrow.
Talking to reporters outside Parliament, SP spokesperson Ramgopal Yadav said that the party is firm in its stand and SP members in the upper house will not participate in floor division.
On the other hand, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), another key supporter of the UPA Government has decided to participate in voting and back the government after taking into consideration the fact that FDI in retail will not be forced upon the states.
“Like the Lok Sabha, we wanted to abstain in the Rajya Sabha, and if the opposition’s motion goes through tomorrow then they will get a political peg and the house will not function… many important litigations will go on the back burner” said BSP chief, Mayawati.
“Considering all these factors, we will vote in favour of government in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow,” she added.
SP and BSP had walked out of the Lok Sabha just ahead of voting on FDI yesterday. (ANI)
