West Midnapore (West Bengal), Jan 1: Closed for several years due to Maoist fears, schools here have been opened once again, rekindling hopes in young students.
Several schools in the district were closed, fearing Maoist attacks since 2010.
Bhudeb Mahato, a teacher at Kolsivanga Deshbandhu High School near Lalgarh, said both teachers and students have suffered due to Maoist violence in the recent past.
“The students saw a huge amount of guns, mines and people were killed indiscriminately. We could not run the school properly and the liable students could not attend their classes due to the extreme fear. We were in the midst of guns when their target was running between the ‘Harmads’ and the Maoists. Now the situation is better than that and the native children attend their school regularly,” said Mahato.
The reopening of the school comes as a ray of hope for the children in the area. (ANI)
